Personal Growth

As I mentioned on my homepage, personal grow is the process nurturing your mind (self-improvement), body (health) and soul (spirituality) and by nurturing, I mean feeding. What's important to know is that what we take into our bodies influences our performance. This means filling yourself with things that will benefit your mind, body and soul while avoiding things that are detrimental (drugs, unhealthy relationships, negative news/media, junk food, etc.).

You'll note that financial growth is not included on my list, even though finances are a priority for all of us. One thing I've learned (and benefited from) is that if you develop yourself in the areas I mentioned above, finance growth naturally follows. In fact, all of the growth areas overlap and influence each other. This is why its so important to develop these areas simultaneously.

One comment about spirituality - spirituality is about have faith in something bigger than you, and it can be God, the universe, the Source or any other related force that fits your philosophy. Furthermore, spirituality provides the foundation for hope and the energy to persevere - this is the area most often neglected but I encourage you to explore this area without bias.  Without faith, there can be no hope.

The process and tools below are what I use and have worked well for me. Reading and Listening sections will feed your mind and soul, while the Health section will pertain to the body. When you start your journey, remember to start small so that you establish a consistency, otherwise personal growth will never become a habit.  Consistency is the key to progress and change.

Reading

One of the most important (if not the most important) things that you can do to better yourself is to read (The average CEO reads 52 books per year--that's one book every week!!!). You should read books pertaining to do self-improvement, spiritual growth, finances and relationships (with or without spouse/partner and children).

Click on the button below for a list of recommended readings.

Listening

What you listen to will determine whether your grow or stay the same (and even decline). You should only listen to things that benefit you (avoid general talk shows, news/debates and other similar venues that tend to carry negative messsages). Podcasts and Ted Talks (nearly all are free) are fantastic tools that will reinforce what you've read.

As with reading, pursruing spiritual growth is quite personal so you have to find something that works for you. I've included a few sources for your use in the link below.

Health

Keeping yourself physically fit doesn't necessarily mean going out and running marathons. It simply means taking care of the only body that you have, which you can do in several ways that fit in with your lifestyle. Exercise, diet, sleep are specific health areas that will hamper your growth progress (or stop it) unless properly maintained.

Also, the term "healthy" is dependent specificaaly on you, which means what works for one person may not work for the next. The best place to start is with a trusted physician, who can help you determine what is best for your body.

I've listed somes sources and other guides that have helped me along my journey and  hopefully will be helpful for you as well.

One thing that I do know is that the foods (or other substances) that we ingest directly affect our mental and spiritual health. The link below contains information regarding healthy habits and other related materials.

Remember, I'm not a doctor and I don't give medical advice - I'm simply sharing tools that were beneficial to me. And any tool that you use must be tailored for your lifestyle in order for it to work.
